Sajik Baseball Stadium, reduced to 21,000 seats, ‘renovated’… No dome, reopening in 2028

The number of spectators at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, the home stadium of the Lotte Giants, which is undergoing reconstruction, will be reduced to 21,000 seats.

Instead of reducing the maximum capacity, it is more likely that reconstruction will be carried out in the direction of increasing viewing convenience.

According to reports such as ‘Busan MBC’, Busan Metropolitan City plans to complete the establishment of the basic plan for the reconstruction of Sajik Baseball Stadium in March. Sajik Baseball Stadium is expected to open in 2028 after reconstruction.

Opened in 1986, Sajik Baseball Stadium is the third oldest KBO league stadium in Korea, following Daejeon Hanwha Life Insurance Eagles Park and Jamsil Baseball Stadium.

Lotte, which uses Sajik Baseball Stadium as its home stadium, has undergone extensive repairs several times, but has been evaluated as poor for hosting professional baseball games in the 2020s due to the facility’s deterioration.

The city of Busan had previously pushed for the construction of a new soccer field, but had difficulties in selecting a site. In the end, we decided to rebuild the Sajik Baseball Stadium in October 2021 and proceeded with the basic plan establishment service.

In the case of constructing a dome stadium, it is not realistic due to cost issues, so it is currently built as an open baseball field like Sajik Baseball Stadium. During the period of reconstruction, it is likely to renovate the Asiad Main Stadium near the Sajik Baseball Stadium and use it for several years.

However, after the reconstruction, the maximum capacity of Sajik Baseball Stadium, which currently has about 23,000 seats, is expected to decrease by about 2,000 seats. Instead, the plan is to widen the space between seats to increase the convenience of spectators and to break away from the symmetrical structure by increasing the number of seats for the home team compared to those for the away team. 안전놀이터

In addition, the direction of the ground is changed from southeast to northeast, and the distance from the spectators is narrowed to focus on improving the viewing field.

It is unfortunate that the maximum capacity is reduced, but it is estimated that the realistic part was considered.

The average attendance at home games in the 2017 season, when Lotte last entered the postseason, was 14,424. The 2012 season was the last time the average attendance exceeded 20,000.

In the case of SSG Landers, which ranked first in crowd mobilization in the KBO League last year, the home stadium Landers Field had 23,000 seats, but the average number of spectators was around 13,000. In view of the fact that it is not easy to achieve full capacity during the regular season, the focus has been on improving the stadium environment even if the number of seats is somewhat reduced.
