The reason why Suwon Samsung chose domestic training was clear.
Suwon had a rough year last season. After staying in the bottom ranks from the beginning of the season, manager Park Gun-ha voluntarily resigned, and manager Lee Byung-geun took over as the 7th manager. Coach Lee Byung-geun sought change by using players who had not been given opportunities, but the situation was not easy.
Suwon ranked 10th and played a promotion playoff (PO) with FC Anyang. After drawing 0-0 in the first leg, the score was 1-1 until the second half of extra time in the second leg. Suwon won 2-1 with Oh Hyun-kyu’s dramatic winning goal in the second half of extra time and managed to remain in the first division.
This season, the position is that the nightmare-like situation will not be repeated. First, they recruited Akosti (31) and Kim Gyeong-jung (31), who led Anyang’s attack. In addition, Brazilian playmaker Basani (25) was leased for one year, and Kim Bo-kyung was recruited from Jeonbuk Hyundai to strengthen the player base. Oh Hyun-kyu left for Celtic, leaving a gap, but he is looking for a striker comparable to him.
Suwon’s field training is a little different from other teams. Suwon held its first field training in Geoje from the 3rd to the 21st of last month. Afterwards, from the 25th to the 17th of this month, the second training session will be held in Jeju Island. Among the K-League teams, it is ‘only’ to be held in Korea.
As the Corona 19 pandemic began to show an end, each team resumed overseas training. 14 out of a total of 25 teams, including K-League 1 and 2, left for Thailand for the first field training. Ulsan Hyundai went to Portugal, Jeonbuk went to Spain, and FC Seoul went to Thailand and Japan. Only Suwon chose to stay in Korea. 스포츠토토
Why did Suwon make this choice?
An official from Suwon said, “We had to set the training schedule earlier this season than last season. In August of last year, the training site and schedule were set, but at that time, the threat of Corona 19 continued. If the corona spread gets worse, there could be a setback in the field training itself, so I chose Korea,” he said.
Regarding domestic field training, some fans doubted whether it was a choice to save money. I definitely drew a line on this. An official from Suwon said, “The amount spent on domestic training is rather large. If you go to Thailand or Southeast Asia, the overall cost is reduced,” he explained.
Director Lee Byeong-geun’s will also played a part. An official from Suwon said, “Usually, in the first round, physical training is focused. However, coach Lee wanted to conduct tactical training along with physical training from the first round. The club recommended Japan, but decided it was better to focus on domestic training where you can have a practice game quickly.”
After all, Suwon’s domestic field training is to restore its honor this season. Corona 19 risk was reduced and training intensity was increased from the first round. There is no right answer in training. All selections will be evaluated according to the final grade. The same goes for Suwon.
